Yoga Asana Tips:

Before Wai Lana begins an asana practice, She would like to sit quietly, turning inward to become aware of the subtle sensations in her body. She watches her breath for a few minutes as it rises and falls, feeling the expansion and contraction it creates in the body. This helps her to calm the mind and become more focused.

As she begins the practice, she thinks of initiating each pose from within rather than mechanically putting her body into it.

For example, when she moves into Triangle Pose, she starts with her feet firmly planted and then she inhales deeply, allowing her breath to lengthen the spine and expand her chest from within. As she exhales, she gracefully bends to the side and finds the right position for the body. She is aware of the prana, or life energy, flowing through her body. When she’s ready to come out of the pose, she starts by inhaling and lengthening from the core – from within – and it’s as if her breath effortlessly guides her back up.

Elaine Grant (data processor) was most impressed by how kind and calm Wai Lana is. “I love the way she presents herself, the way she comes across to the audience in a very calm and peaceful manner. Nothing is rushed through, her explanation of everything, what one pose does for the body and I just love, I don’t think that I would be comfortable doing yoga with anyone else but Wai Lana.”
